Bargate Homes receives planning approval for 155 homes

Hampshire-based Bargate Homes has secured a resolution to grant planning permission from New Forest District Council (NFDC) for a hybrid application for up to 155 energy-efficient homes in the historic village of Hordle, situated between the Solent coast and New Forest National Park in Hampshire.

Located on Hordle Lane, the 12.21-hectare (30-acre) site was allocated for residential development in the NFDC Local Plan. Bargate Homes worked closely with the Council to support its Local Plan new homes target which aims to reduce the 1,876 households on its housing waiting list.

A Reserved Matters application will now be prepared for the housing element of the scheme, with Bargate Homes seeking to deliver a collection of high EPC-rated homes, from one-bedroom apartments to larger four-bedroom houses. 40% of the scheme is to be designated for affordable housing, with shared ownership, affordable rent, and social rent homes across a wide mix of sizes and home types to be delivered by VIVID – the owner of Bargate Homes.

Over half of the land will be Public Open Space (POS) and Alternative Natural Recreational Greenspace (ANRG). This includes play areas, 15 full-size allotments, maintained woodland, and a well-connected provision for walking and cycling with a network of new gravel paths and additional native planting, to benefit both the existing community and future residents.

Mark White, Managing Director of Bargate Homes, commented: “We’re thrilled to receive planning permission at committee for a second development in Hordle. It’s another positive step for Bargate Homes to be supporting the New Forest District Council’s Local Plan, delivering much-needed new homes for first-time buyers, upsizers and downsizers in the area.

“At this latest 155-home development, we are looking to not only build a fantastic selection of energy-efficient family homes but also provide expansive public open space with a play area  and allotments, leaving a lasting legacy for the whole community to enjoy.”

The resolution to grant planning permission coincides with the launch of the award-winning housebuilder’s 100th development—Shepherd’s Green, located east of Everton Road in Hordle—which will deliver 97 mixed-tenure homes.

The plans for the new 155-home development include vehicular access from Hordle Lane, along with additional pedestrian and cycling routes to promote active travel. The development will feature a mix of parking solutions, including road and parking enhancements, as well as dedicated cycle parking.
