YDBC’s trainee programme develops new talent in construction

Yorkshire-based Building Control Approved Inspector, YDBC Ltd, is stepping up its efforts to encourage and promote new talent in construction with further investment in trainee development.

Alanah Robbins has joined the company as a Trainee Building Control Surveyor. Having graduated with an MSc in Construction Management from Leeds Beckett University, Alanah is spending periods at YDBC’s two offices in Leeds and Leyburn, where she is working alongside experienced teams of Building Control specialists and supporting surveyors on site visits throughout the region.

Katherine Naisbitt, Director at YDBC, said:

“YDBC are strong advocates of work-based learning as a way of fast-tracking professional development, helping to realise potential by hiring and supporting people at the early stages of their career in construction. When starting out in our sector, there is no substitute for gaining insight and experience in a busy day-to-day environment, drawing on the knowledge and expertise of senior colleagues. We are delighted to welcome Alanah as our latest colleague. Trainee programmes like ours are a welcome route into construction for the increasing numbers of women who, like Alanah, see a bright future in our industry.”

Alanah said:

“YDBC is a company that believes in investing in people and nurturing their progression. Joining them as a Trainee Building Control Surveyor is a very exciting opportunity to build my knowledge and experience across a huge range of new build and refurbishment developments in domestic and commercial sectors. I am getting involved in every aspect of the company, from site work to administration, which I think is important to fully understand the dynamics of any business.”

YDBC is part of the C80 Group and operates as a sister company with the Group’s other building consultancies, including Leeds-based C80 Solutions and Birmingham-based Stewarts. The combined expertise of the three companies encompasses a wide range of specialisms, including energy assessment, Building Compliance, consultancy, testing, and building services engineering.
