West Fraser celebrates International Women in Engineering Day 2026

On the 23 June for the past thirteen years, the International Women in Engineering Day (INWED) celebrates the outstanding achievements of women engineers around the world and shines a spotlight on the opportunities engineering creates for future generations. Developed by the Women’s Engineering Society, INWED is a global movement that champions diversity, innovation, and inclusion across the engineering sector. Under the 2026 theme, Engineering Intelligence, the society is bringing together organisations, educators, industry leaders, and communities to showcase the expertise, creativity, and leadership women bring to engineering every day.

West Fraser, of course, has its own valuable team of female engineers at the company’s plant in Inverness – Agnes Woo is a Graduate Engineer; Lily Carmichael is a fitter; and Nadia Johal is an electrician.

Agnes Woo explains,”I have been working at West Fraser since September 2025 having joined as a Graduate Apprentice.  The jobs to be completed are so varied and changeable which puts the skills I’ve learned to the test on a daily basis.  West Fraser has stringent standards on safety – this is what stands out to me.”

Carol Brown, Human Resources Manager at West Fraser comments, “Agnes, Lily and Nadia are key members of our Inverness engineering team and it is great to see how their respective careers have progressed here – as is the case for all our employees.”
