Wates Group, one of the UK’s leading family-owned development, building and property maintenance companies, has purchased its long-standing head office, Wates House, in Leatherhead.

This acquisition, completed on 26th January 2026, represents a significant investment in both the site and the wider community and secures the long-term future of the approximately 37,000 sq ft (3,437 sq m) headquarters, spread across two buildings.

Wates continues to strengthen its presence in Leatherhead through initiatives delivered across the local community, including:

· Investing £15k to the Leatherhead Business Improvement District (BID) to support local economic development and contribute to improvements of the local area.

· Working with HMP Send, a nearby women’s prison, to explore training and skills development programmes to help prisoner leavers prepare for employment opportunities upon release.

· Developing its relationship with Therfield School to support pupils at greater risk of becoming NEET (not in education, employment or training), helping them to build confidence, better understand future opportunities and gain access to partners and opportunities.

All these activities form part of Wates Group’s ambitious social value strategy, working to bring wider economic, environmental and societal benefits to the communities where the business operates. In 2024, the Group delivered a total of £395m in social value added to local communities and educated more than 38,000 young people on careers in the built environment.

Eoghan O’Lionaird, Chief Executive of Wates Group, said:

“As a purpose-led business, everything we do at Wates is driven by reimagining places for people to thrive.

“Securing the future of Wates House – our home for more than two decades – strengthens Wates’ long-term commitment to Leatherhead and the local area. Alongside our work with the local community, it reflects our determination to leave a lasting positive impact where we work.”
