Village life in London’s East End

Just because a home is “affordable”, it doesn’t mean it can’t have a show-stopping bathroom. That has been amply demonstrated on the first phase of a new development in London’s East End. 160 apartments in Lighterman Point, the first phase of the development to be completed, feature wall hung sanitaryware thanks to Multikwik frames, set in handsome stone tiled bathrooms.

Lighterman Point, built by main contractor Wilmott Dixon, is the first phase of a £250 million residential development on a nine acre site in East London, which will eventually incorporate 1000 apartments located between Canary Wharf and Canning Town. The aim of the project is to provide good quality, affordable housing close to central London. Multikwik has supplied sanitary frames for the 160 apartments in Lighterman Point, the first block to be completed. This 10 storey concrete framed structure will provide studios, one and two bedroom flats for private sale with views towards the river Lee, the Thames and Canning Town. The ground floor will house new retail units.

Managing Director of DPL Daren Lovelock, the plumbing and heating contractor commented:

“We have selected Multikwik frames for several big residential projects across London now. They make the installation quick and straight-forward so they’re also popular with everyone on site.”

Multikwik sanitary frames can be supplied with a wide range of stylish, sleek, flush-plate designs and on this development the client selected a stainless steel plate to fit in with the high specification bathroom fittings and finishes. As well as providing a fashionable, user-friendly feature in the bathroom, the flush plates create a wall opening large enough for basic cistern maintenance, once the frames have been tiled in.

Multikwik’s market-leading sanitary frames facilitate the installation of clean, modern sanitaryware designs, and offer the opportunity to hide many obtrusive and unsightly pipes and fittings. Designed specifically to be simple to install and easy to manage on site, each module is supplied pre-assembled, making it a doddle to install because everything needed to complete the installation of each frame is supplied in the box, reducing the chances of hold ups and missing parts.

Multikwik sanitary systems offer complete design freedom, maximising bathroom space, even in the most compact bathrooms and washrooms. With the average bathroom size in the UK being 8 x 6 feet, the frames leave more space for even the smallest bathrooms. The range of 820mm, 1000mm and 1185mm frames features a module for every type of bathroom fitting, including WCs, urinals, bidets, baths, showers and special needs fittings. The frame system is complemented by the Multikwik range of compact and concealed cisterns and a wide range of flush plates and cover plates including infra-red, wooden and glass options. In addition the dual flush systems provide water-and money-saving benefits.
