Turley submits application for comprehensive redevelopment of Milford Dock

Planning consultancy Turley, acting on behalf of the Port of Milford Haven, has submitted a major planning application that will pave the way for a £70m redevelopment of Milford Dock, Milford Haven.

An outline planning application for the comprehensive mixed use redevelopment of Wales’ largest fishing port was submitted to Pembrokeshire County Council on 30 May. The proposals comprise up to 21,904 sq m of mixed use, commercial, retail and fishing related floorspace, as well as providing up to 160 new residential properties, up to 70 marina berths and replacement boat yards.

The outline planning application, if approved, will see an investment of £70m, creating quality leisure and entertainment attractions for residents and visitors to Pembrokeshire as well as first class facilities for the fishing community. Additionally, the scheme will deliver major economic benefits to Milford Haven, as well as the wider Pembrokeshire economy, through the creation of new employment opportunities and the retention of retail expenditure currently lost to other centres further afield.

Jeff Teague, Estates Director for the Port of Milford Haven said:

“This is an exciting development, and it is our aim to drive the regeneration of the entire town of Milford Haven, not just the port. If we can attract just 25 per cent of the county’s visitors, then around one million people will be spending money in the town. This massive boost in tourism will create approximately 600 new jobs over the lifetime of the development, bringing economic prosperity to the entire area.

“The development of new facilities for the fishing industry will consolidate Milford’s position as the largest fishing port in Wales and help to grow that sector here in Milford Haven.”

Rob Peters, Executive Director at Turley said:

“The application follows a two-year long consultation and engagement programme, enabling the local business community and residents to have their say in the planning process. The Design team which has been led by Turley Planning has also involved a range of Turley’s other services including Heritage, Urban Design and Masterplanning, Engagement, Economics, Graphics and Sustainability. These are exciting plans and we are delighted to have played a big part in shaping a long-term future for Milford Haven.”
