Property investment and development company, Thackeray Estates, has obtained planning permission to renovate the historic Dover House, a former hotel and restaurant in Waterloo, into nine luxury residential apartments, complete with commercial space. Construction has already begun on site, with the development launch expected in September 2014.
Led by Brett Palos and Antony Alberti, Thackeray Estates is a privately owned London based property investment company, which specialises in repositioning high-quality commercial, mixed use and residential development projects. The company has a portfolio in excess of ￡100 million (GDV), nearly 200,000 sq. ft. of freehold property, owned in growth locations across central London.
Commenting on Thackeray Estate’s plans for Dover House, Founding Director, Antony Alberti, said:
“Dover House is a landmark development for Thackeray Estates. Planning has enabled us to optimise the project and unlock the value of the site. Each apartment will be of the highest quality design and specification, whilst retaining and restoring the grand character of this historic building.”
Fronting onto Westminster Bridge Road and Lower Marsh Street, Dover House provides over 16,000 sq. ft. of accommodation. The building was originally constructed in 1895 and designed by architects Treadwell & Martin. It first operated as the Dover Castle Hotel and Restaurant, before closing in the 1960’s and later becoming a language school.
Located on the ground floor and basement levels there will be a new Co-Operative convenience store providing over 3,500 sq. ft. of retail space, sensitively designed to maintain the traditional character of the building.
Dover House provides nine apartments, which include two penthouses, across the upper four floors, accessed by a communal residents’ lobby, with a lift servicing each floor and a gymnasium located on the lower ground floor. They will consist of one, two and three bedroom apartments, including two penthouses, designed by luxury interior specialists Argent Design.
“Dover House is in a Prime Zone 1 location, immediately neighbouring Westminster and Whitehall. This project will introduce a Knightsbridge and Westminster quality product into an up-and-coming location, set to benefit from significant capital value uplift, creating a lucrative opportunity for Thackeray Estates and purchasers.”
Situated in the heart of Waterloo, Dover House is within walking distance to some of London’s greatest landmarks, including; the Houses Of Parliament, the London Eye and the Old Vic theatre. Around the corner from Waterloo Station, residents have access to strong transport links with tube journeys as short as three minutes into central London.
