Stewart Milne Group leadership training programme recognised with award

The Stewart Milne Group’s innovative partnership approach to developing leadership talent within its organisation has been recognised with a prestigious human resources award.

A consortium of the Stewart Milne Group and Macphie of Glenbervie won the Tremendous Training and Development award at this year’s Cherries ceremony for their joint managing people for growth programme.

The Cherries Awards celebrate the successes and examples of excellence in the fields of human resources, recruitment and training in the north-east of Scotland.

The Tremendous Training and Development award was open to companies that demonstrated a strong commitment to designing and delivering cohesive and innovative training and development programmes and initiatives for their organisations.

The managing people for growth programme, which is supported by Scottish Enterprise, helps employees increase and develop their leadership skills such as team motivation, assertiveness, communication and conflict management and is designed to help both companies achieve their commercial goals. The collaborative arrangement between the two businesses has helped the course emphasise that key management issues are not unique to any particular company or industry.

Glenn Allison, group managing director of the Stewart Milne Group, said:

“We are immensely proud of our Managing People for Growth Programme which we developed along with Macphie of Glenbervie. The team worked hard to ensure that we created an interesting, accessible and dynamic training programme which is aimed specifically towards ambitious, growth-focused businesses.

“This award is testament to the hard work, commitment and investment that we put into development and training. As a company we are committed to delivering developments and homes to the highest standard and I strongly believe that the best way to achieve this is to have passionate people working with you who are trained to the highest level and able to develop to the fullest of their abilities.”

The Cherries award is the latest in a series of accolades for the Stewart Milne Group. At the beginning of the year the group was awarded 5 star house builder status by the Home Builders Federation (HBF) for the third year running, based upon a 98% customer satisfaction rating.

The contribution to the industry by the Group’s founder, chief executive and chairman, Stewart Milne, has also recently been recognised with a lifetime achievement award from industry body Homes for Scotland and an outstanding contribution to the construction industry award at the Trades Awards 2014.

The Stewart Milne Group is one of the UK’s leading independent home builders and a manufacturer of innovative timber frame systems. With around 700 employees across the UK the Group is recognised for the quality of its in-house training and development programmes.

Macphie of Glenbervie is a leading family-owned company with over 80 years’ experience and success, specialising in developing and manufacturing premium quality food ingredients and solutions from its two sites in Glenbervie and Tannochside.
