Stannah Lifts access in award-winning affordable housing scheme

A Stannah passenger lift has made access easy for residents of Victoria Wharf Apartments, a £5.5m, sustainable and contemporary canal-side housing development for intermediate rent in Ladbroke Grove, St John’s Terrace, London W10.

The eight-person lift is wall-mounted in a purpose-built, freestanding structure that rises from an exterior courtyard at lower-ground level to serve all 22 apartments ranged over five floors.

Traction driven for a fast, smooth, comfortable ride, the lift is finished in satin stainless steel throughout. The through-car interior features a silver, half-height mirror and downlighter bubble ceiling, and, for added reassurance, a grab rail, autodialler and anti-slip wood-effect flooring. Importantly, to discourage wannabe Banksies, the interior is graffiti-proof.

Stannah Marketing Manager, Jo Monro, comments:

“This lift installation is a prime example of Stannah’s ability to flex to a developer’s requirements and help optimise a location, socially, functionally and visually:  It unites residents on all floors to all amenities, including the roof terrace and external gym; its central location facilitates views over the Grand Union canal from living rooms and balconies in the south block; it supports WCC’s drive to provide affordable housing for single, first-time buyers from all backgrounds, and it complements the colourful, layered facade that reflects Victoria Wharf’s location and traditional canal barge culture.”

The Stannah lift installation team worked in partnership with Child Graddon Lewis Architects & Designers and construction experts Quinn London.

Developed for Westminster Community Homes and Westminster City CouncilVictoria Wharf won ‘Small Project of the Year’ at 2018’s Building Awards and ‘Best Housing Scheme in the Affordable Homes Sector’ at the Evening Standard’s New Homes awards.

As with all Stannah lift products, the passenger lift is covered by Stannah’s comprehensive lift service plan, which includes six service visits in the first year, with continued lift maintenance by the London and South East (Dartford) branch of Stannah Lift Services, part of a nationwide network providing comprehensive lift servicing and support.
