A Nottingham based building contractor is facilitating the development of six new high specification apartments in Beeston after it was revealed that there is a shortage of affordable housing for young professionals in the area.
DL Rhodes & Son Ltd has been awarded the contract to build the apartments on Station Street on behalf of local investor, AndréWilkins, who has timed the completion of the project to coincide with the opening of the new tram service.
The site previously housed six garages and after André, director of The Wilkins Group, secured planning permission to build six two-bedroom apartments, the work was awarded to Arnold based DL Rhodes & Son following a recommendation from RS Electrical.
Managing Director at DL Rhodes & Son Ltd, Nigel Rhodes, said:
“We are delighted to announce our latest contract with André, in what will be his first residential development. It is hoped that this project will encourage more young professionals to the area.
It is always nice to win a contract from a recommendation and we believe that all parties are happy with the project. We started work in October last year but due to the tram works, work was delayed, but we are still on course to finish in October.”
The six, plush new apartments will make use of solid walls and will be in keeping with the rest of the street, they will be rented for the foreseeable future with plans to be sold later.
When Andréwent to visit the site originally, he discovered an old hut, which was being occupied by The Beeston Cobbler, a well-known tradesperson there.
“We really wanted to help The Beeston Cobbler continue his business, as he is so well-known in the town. We helped him find a new home across the street at 149 Station Road and assisted him throughout the process. His business is now better than ever!
“My aim was to tackle the housing shortage in the area, and with the improved transport links, I believe it will be the perfect home for the young professional couple.”
