Pupils get their first taste of construction

Pupils from a primary school in Redditch donned hard hats and high visibility vests after being invited on-site by a leading housebuilder.

Persimmon Homes South Midlands welcomed 30 children from Tardebigge CE First School’s reception class to the Pointers Way development off Hewell Road in Redditch to show them what’s involved in building a brand new house.

The children had already learnt about the 3 Little Pigs who built houses of their own, one with straw, one with twigs and one using bricks. Only the house built with bricks survived the wrath of the Big Bad Wolf.

Reception class teacher Katie Hudson, explained:

“Over the last few weeks the children have been studying the classic children’s story the 3 Little Pigs and I was keen to bring to life the materials and methods used to build a house.”

“They all had a fantastic afternoon learning all about the tools and materials used to build a house and how to stay safe on a working site from Persimmon’s site manager David Saunders. It really sparked their imagination and they asked lots of questions .”

The youngsters toured around the site seeing each stage of the construction of a house from the early stages to a finished property before moving onto the show home where they made the most of their tour opening all the cupboards and wardrobes, testing the sofas and asking more questions like why the cupboards were empty and who lived in the show home.

Alastair Parsons, Sales Director at Persimmon Homes South Midlands commented:

“The day was a huge success and the children were extremely well behaved. We sometimes forget that although construction is our day to day business it is very exciting for visitors especially young children like our group from local school Tardebigge CE First.”

With just a handful of properties remaining at Pointers Way buyers are advised to act quickly to secure one of the homes in the attractive hill top location off Hewell Road.
