Popular home improvement trends

We all love to plan our extensive home improvements, but what’s the best trend that you’ve seen this year? Are you a fan of big, spacious, open-plan rooms, or do you prefer a cosier layout perfect for cuddling up in the evening? We’ve looked into the most popular home improvement trends to give you some inspo for your home!

  1. The bathroom, AKA home spa

A luxurious bathroom has always been a popular design in any home, but now more than ever we’re seeing those spa vibes coming in and we absolutely love it! Spending so much time at home and away from the beauty regimes that we like to treat ourselves with has lead to a high demand in replicating it at home.

From waterfall showers to deep-set baths and heated flooring, the bathroom is the room seeing the most improvements to make it a peaceful resort for anyone needing a bit of TLC after a stressful day. There’s also been a shift from all-white bathrooms with the introduction of darker colours, especially deep greys and blacks, that make the white aspects pop and give a whole new level of definition!

  1. Home gyms

With gyms and work-out spaces being shut for a huge percentage of the last year, we’ve had to get creative and find our own ways to work out at home. Some have converted space and dedicated it to becoming a home gym, especially those with a garage or spare room that isn’t being used. After a bit of a spring clean and getting hold of some equipment, these areas have been redesigned into a personal work-out area that have kept a lot of people sane while having to stay at home.

For those who don’t have the space to create their own gym, there are other great options – focus on getting equipment that you can store more easily, such as a yoga mat, small weights, skipping ropes – and find a place in your home that you can keep it while you’re not doing your workouts. This is a perfect solution for those who don’t have a lot of space but still want to get some exercise in.

  1. Bright and beautiful

More and more homes are now adding bright colours to their interiors, moving away from the classic white and grey combos with a touch of a pastel colours to break it up. This trend is easily personalised which is why it’s so popular – you can pick the colours that you want and the intensity as well, perfect for those who don’t want to jump in head-first but are still keen to add in some colour here and there.

The best way to work with this trend is to choose two colours that pair together well; sage green and pink or emerald green and gold are our personal favourites, but you can choose what works for you and see which combos you create!

  1. Storage

Storage has become another highly demanded feature in homes, especially for those who are trying to develop a minimalist theme. There are different options for storage which you can work around depending on your style and layout – in smaller homes, built-in storage is the perfect answer to keeping your items organised without taking up too much space. Floating bookshelves are also a great alternative, and make for a lovely feature on a wall.

In areas with more space to use, you can look at library-style bookcases that cover a wall which look absolutely stunning, especially if you’re an avid reader, or cabinets with glass doors are also a popular option if you want to be able to display your items while also keeping them tidy.

  1. A home office

Millions of us have been working from home for the past year, and are likely going to be for the foreseeable as well. Designing yourself a home office means that you’ll be able to be more productive and organised, but if you’ve been looking at this improvement trends wondering “which will help me sell my house quickly?” this is the answer!

Where possible, dedicate a spare room to create your office space. Make sure you’ve got a sturdy desk and a comfortable chair, and get rid of any distractions – that means no television! Having music in the background can help your productivity, so a radio is a handy addition, and try to only use the room for your working hours. One of the biggest difficulties that home workers have is differentiating between work hours and home hours, so having a specific space that you work in and another that you relax in helps break up the day and keep you on top of things.

  1. Make the most of outside space

Before now, outside space was desirable, but it’s now become essential for a huge number of us. Whether you’ve got a garden, a patio, or a balcony, utilise that space and welcome in the summer! Adding a seating area will encourage you to use this area, and with the weather getting warmer now is the perfect time to update your outside space.

Adding plants to brighten up the place is a popular option, along with solar lights to give you a warm glow in the nights without having to worry about any wires. For larger spaces, water features are becoming incredibly popular, as well as vegetable patches and flower beds, perfect for any green-fingered friends out there!

All of these trends have absolutely stunning results, and we can’t wait to see more as the year progresses!
