Over 550 new homes can be created at the site of a former golf club in Herne Bay, Kent.
Housebuilder Redrow is planning to develop a new neighbourhood in the place of the closed-down Herne Bay Golf Club and invest millions in the local community.
Apart from plans for over 550 homes, 30 per cent of which affordable, the wider redevelopment of the land include proposals for a care home, commercial units, doctor’s surgery and public house.
The overall scheme will include around 64 acres of open space with facilities for tennis, football, cricket and hockey.
Known as The Fairways, the first phase will offer 113 three and four-bedroom homes, subject to planning.
Rachael Baillie, sales director for Redrow Homes (South East), said:
“It’s almost five years since the golf club closed and local people have been keen to see the land brought back into good use. There’s certainly a demand for new homes in the area – we already have a database of hundreds of potential purchasers.
“But we don’t just build new homes, we help create and maintain communities by investing in the areas in which we operate. For example, as a result of our Herne Bay development we’ll be investing more than £6.3 million in the local community.”
