Performance Doorset Solutions (PDS) have recently supplied 34 of their Oak veneer fire doors and frames for a new library and Youth Connexions facility in Harpenden, Hertfordshire.
The brief for the library project required the doors to incorporate glazed fanlights which adhered to fire regulations, as well as specifically designing the doorframes to fit into a variety of unusual opening spaces. It was also essential for the doors to fit in with the overall aesthetics and modern design of the building.
PDS internal fire doors are FD30 and FD60 rated and are available in single and double leaf doors. As with all PDS products these doors are made to order, which meant that they were able to manufacture each door and frame to ensure that they met the brief and were the perfect fit for the unusual doorways.
The glazed section of the doors utilised Fireswiss Cool fire resistant glass, produced by Swiss manufacturers Glastroesch. Fireswiss is a fire resistant glass which offers both integrity and partial insulation against radiating heat. UK distributors CT Glass were able to assist PDS in ensuring that the fire glass gave the appropriate aesthetic feel while meeting the relevant fire regulations.
The project transformed an old retail unit into the Library and Youth Centre, with the £960,000 refurbishment being undertaken by the Special Works team at T&B Contractors. They worked to a very tight schedule of 13 weeks which meant that they had to rely on suppliers that could work in a timely manner without compromising on quality.
PDS doors are factory finished and arrive on site as the final product. This means that installation times are kept to a minimum. They have a vast amount of experience in dealing with projects with tight deadlines and are proud to be able to offer a quick production schedule while still providing a high quality product.
PDS worked closely with T&B Contractors throughout the whole process of the refurbishment from initial enquiry right through to after care services.
