Octopus Energy, the UK’s largest electricity supplier, and UPOWA, a leader in the design and installation of new build solar, battery storage and EV charging, have teamed up to fast-track the development of ‘Zero Bills’ homes – transforming sustainable living into a reality for thousands across the UK.
This deal will kick off with the rollout of 48 state-of-the-art ‘Zero Bills’ homes which Thakeham, one of the leading housebuilders in the south of England, is building as part of its Templegate development in Burgess Hill, West Sussex.
UPOWA will deliver the roof-integrated solar panel and battery storage installations of the ‘Zero Bills’ homes, which will make up part of a wider net zero carbon community at the site.
Launched in 2022, ‘Zero Bills’ is a world-first energy tariff from Octopus Energy that allows customers to move into homes that are fully kitted out with state-of-the-art green tech – including a heat pump, a battery and solar panels – with no energy bills guaranteed for 10 years.
As one of Octopus Energy’s delivery partners, UPOWA has unveiled a dedicated ‘Zero Bills’ team to ensure a smooth, end-to-end rollout for housing developers nationwide.
Backed by over 15 years of experience and more than 30,000 solar installations, UPOWA’s
one-stop-shop service for solar, battery and EV charging integrations is paving the way for the government’s Future Homes Standard.
James Bull, Founder & Sales Director at UPOWA, said:
“This partnership represents a major step forward in making Zero Bills homes the standard for newbuild developments across the country.
“Our dedicated team ensures that developers have a hassle-free experience, enabling them to deliver highly desirable, future-proofed homes that benefit both homeowners and the planet.”
Nigel Banks, Zero Bills Director at Octopus Energy, comments:
“Zero Bills’ homes are a triple win – for homeowners, developers and the environment.
“With partners like UPOWA, we’re accelerating our mission to roll out 100,000 Zero Bills homes by 2030, creating a greener, more affordable energy future.”
Octopus Energy has now accredited well over 1,000 ‘Zero Bills’ homes through contracts with several prominent housing developers. Accredited homes span affordable and private rent, as well as private and shared ownership. Together, Octopus Energy and its partners are reshaping the future of housebuilding, helping to bring the vision of 100,000 ‘Zero Bills’ homes by 2030 to life at scale.
