Two Notting Hill Housing schemes in London have been shortlisted for Best Small Development and Best Regeneration Project in the National Housing Awards (NHA) 2013
Heywood in Stanmore, Harrow, was shortlisted for Best Regeneration Project and Humes Avenue in Hanwell, Ealing, was shortlisted for Best Small Development.
The two innovative schemes were selected for providing high-quality, affordable homes which transformed previously disused sites.
The large Heywood regeneration project was built on the grounds of a former Ministry of Defence (MOD) housing estate. Its disused residential buildings had been subject to vandalism and were not suitable for families.
Notting Hill Housing converted this derelict brownfield site into a brand new community with 79 terraced residential houses and apartments offering one, two and three bedrooms for private sale, Shared Ownership and affordable rent.
Alex Nagy, Marketing Manager at Notting Hill Housing explained:
“The Heywood development introduces a wider mix of affordable housing into the Stanmore market, thus making the area more accessible to aspirational buyers.”
The development also introduced improved access for pedestrians, cyclists and wheelchair users to key facilities and public transport routes.
Resident, Flint John Oliquiano, said:
“Heywood has certainly brought much more security to the immediate area, residents appear much happier with the newly created environment. The general layout of the site and the fact that all home fronts face each other has certainly created a strong community, encouraging residents to engage with each other. The affordability of the homes is a particular advantage here and a rarity within the Stanmore area; we never envisaged being able to buy via Shared Ownership in such a wealthy area like this”.
The Humes Avenue development was built on a site formerly occupied by two derelict industrial buildings. It now provides nine family homes, all for Shared Ownership, and received an unprecedented level of interest from customers.
Similarly, George Davoh at Ealing Council emphasised the affordability of the Humes Avenue scheme:
“The Shared Ownership homes at Humes Avenue provide a good blend between practical living, style and affordability. The location is excellent and these homes are undoubtedly a best buy.”
Demand for homes at both schemes was high amongst local buyers due to the affordability and quality of the developments.
