The Mayor of Uttoxeter, Councillor Martin Blencowe, has praised the addition of 38 new homes to Balance Street and cited them as a valuable addition to the town.
The homes, which are currently under construction, occupy the derelict site of a former care home which had become renowned as a local eye-sore within the town’s conservation area.
Built for Trent & Dove Housing, Burton upon Trent’s largest provider of social homes, by Maplevale Developments, the Balance Street site will contain 33 one-bedroom apartments and 5 two-bedroom houses.
Designed to complement the existing streetscape, the two main apartment blocks will draw inspiration from their Georgian neighbours, balancing traditional styling with modern comforts such as fuel efficient boilers.
With an anticipated cost of £3.3 million and part funded by the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) all 39 properties will be available for affordable rent.
Speaking at a short ceremony to mark the start of the build, David Price, Vice-Chair of the Board at Trent & Dove Housing said:
“We are delighted to be able to bring such marvellous quality homes to the people of Uttoxeter. The transformation of this once dilapidated site has now begun and I look forward to returning in the near future to welcome our first tenants to their new homes”
