New homes planned close to Tynemouth Station (North East)

Consett-based housebuilder, Amethyst Homes, has submitted a detailed planning application to North Tyneside Council for its proposed development on disused land adjacent to Tynemouth Station.

The proposal includes the creation of 46 one, two, three and four bedroomed properties, with some allocated car parking spaces, cycle storage, and landscaping on land to the south of the station, whilst to the north, a new car park is to be constructed.

Additionally, the scheme features significant improvements to the public spaces around Tynemouth Station buildings to the east of the track. Throughout the development, a careful choice of materials will improve the overall environment and enhance the character and appearance of the conservation area and the setting of the listed station building.

Richard Bass, Managing Director at Amethyst Homes, said: “It has taken significant work from our team working closely with the North Tyneside Planners to get to this point. We’d like to thank those who commented during the public consultation. Every point raised was carefully considered, ensuring our final proposals to deliver new homes will respect the unique local heritage of the area and bring lasting value to Tynemouth and North Tyneside.

“Due to its unique location, the proposal offers a fully sustainable development close to all local amenities and facilities, all of which are within easy walking distance. As the development is directly adjacent to the Metro, this provides opportunities to connect to the wider locations of North Tyneside, Newcastle, and South Tyneside, which are all within easy reach.”

The application is now subject to formal validation and review by North Tyneside Council, with a statutory consultation period to follow. If approved, the development will commence in 2027, providing much needed new homes to North Tyneside.
