Open space management company Meadfleet is celebrating success after reaching the finals of three top industry awards. It is shortlisted in the Landscape Institute’s Landscape Legacy Award 2022 and in the Innovator of the Year and Campaign of the Year categories of the UK Housing Awards 2022. This follows success in the CIRIA Big Biodiversity Challenge Awards 2021 with Meadfleet winning top prize in the Pollinator Award category.

Since 1995 Meadfleet have been appointed by local authorities and developers, taking responsibility for the maintenance and enhancement of public open spaces, creating a legacy for stakeholders, protecting the developers’ brand, and providing an environment that residents value.

Meadfleet’s Bee Friendly initiative has also been recognised, reaching the finals of the UK Housing Award’s Campaign of the Year category. Its Bee Friendly initiative is a perfect example of how the organisation create, enhance and monitor wildlife habitats on open spaces. Meadfleet work closely with Buglife, the UK’s leading insect charity to help ensure the success of its work in helping crucial pollinator populations.
As part of the Bee Friendly campaign, Meadfleet have committed to:
- 30,000m2 of meadow to replace some of what has been lost in the UK (97% of wildflower meadows have been wiped out since the 1930s)
- 1km of new hedgerow including native shrub and tree species to provide nectar in spring, berries in autumn and natural habitats for birds and mammals
- 70,000 new bulbs in a mix of species which provide nectar over many months
- Donating 2000 bee hotels to customers
Meadfleet believe they can have a significant impact in supporting biodiversity and the environment across their 320 developments and 40,000 customers. They provide developers, local authorities and landowners with a sustainable and responsible management solution. Their experience and in-house expertise ensures Meadfleet are ready to assist housebuilders meet new Biodiversity Net Gain requirements which are due to become law in 2023.
