Magply magnesium oxysulfate (MOS) boards have recently undergone a stringent testing programme by the British Board of Agrément (BBA), which helps clients validate their processes and mitigate risk offering greater confidence for specifiers of the products tested.
After a painstaking two year process, Magply’s faith in the multipurpose panel was justified by the BBA’s issue of a much-coveted Agrément certificate no. 22/6050. Stages involved the BBA carrying out a full audit of Magply’s existing testing regime – along with undergoing a number of the authority’s own rigorous trials. These included a six-month evaluation of the board for leeching, which thanks to the material’s inherent stability resulted in a zero score.
The different construction industry applications for Magply boards which the BBA assessed included:
- Backer board for proprietary render systems
- Rainscreen
- Timber frame construction
- SFS construction
- Spandrel panels
- Fire protection
- Sheathing
The certification – now published – comes in two parts: the first covering the board as a sheathing solution, the other when Magply is used in rainscreen cladding with a render finish. These in turn cover considerations such as Magply’s compliance with Building Regulations, independently verified technical specification, regular surveillance of the production process and verifying installation guidance. Behaviour in relation to fire, moisture resistance and durability were also assessed. The new BBA certification offers further potential opportunities for the use of Magply though, primarily, it provides the specifier full confidence in the board having approval across multiple applications, from the industry’s principle assessor.
