Maximising daylight in northern city planning
In our latest blog, Paul Rogers (daylighting expert at Swedish ACC Glass and Facade Consultants) offers unique insights into residential architecture, daylighting and indoor climate in our increasingly built-up urban developments. ‘Light is particularly important for our experience of a building,’ says Paul. ‘There is real joy in seeing how the light changes both during the day and across the changing seasons and I also think daylight is one of the qualities people consider when they judge a building.’

VELFAC windows met a variety of performance challenges at Silkash, a development of 150 family homes built by Northstone. ‘Our aim is to create homes which deliver a feeling of contentment and wellness for residents, and as part of this we all know that getting a good night’s sleep is vital,’ explains Craig Nutter, Northstone Operations Director. ‘As a result, we specified VELFAC triple glazing for all first-floor windows and the noise reduction within the bedrooms is so noticeable that buyers often comment on this particular feature.
