Top 10 UK housebuilder, Keepmoat, has committed to regenerating 3.76 acres of brownfield land in Stevenage that will create 57 high quality new homes, delivering much needed housing stock and replacing disused community buildings.
The land was acquired from Stevenage Borough Council and the housebuilder will work in partnership with the local authority to regenerate the site. Keepmoat is investing £12.5million into the development, which was formerly the base of the local Sea Cadets and Scouts Associations before the groups relocated to modern community building facilities earlier this year.
The project, which will unlock a desirable location to provide much needed housing in line with the council’s annual target, is due to be completed in 2026 and will provide a range of much needed multi-tenure homes to the area.
Keepmoat also has ambitious plans to create new jobs, apprenticeships and training schemes for local people, investing in Stevenage’s locality and boosting the economy in the area, creating a raft of new local jobs and opportunities for local contractors.
Mick O’Farrell, Regional Managing Director at Keepmoat, South Midlands, said: “It’s brilliant to be involved with this site and everyone at Keepmoat is excited to deliver much needed homes with Stevenage Borough Council.
“We look forward to working alongside the council as we continue to build on our successful partnership, providing new homes for local people whilst unlocking and transforming brownfield land, in line with the town’s housing targets.
“We’re also pleased that both the Sea Cadets and Scouts Associations were able to secure a new home prior to Keepmoat acquiring this land, after their historical premises were considered to be at end of life – we would love to work closely with both groups in the future on this heritage site.”
Councillor Jackie Hollywell, Portfolio Holder for Housing and Housing Development added: “New housing is essential in providing stability and security to residents, and this new mixed tenure housing is a welcome addition to the local supply. It’s fantastic news that we will be working in partnership with Keepmoat as this also brings investment in to local jobs, apprenticeships and boosts the local economy too”.For more information, please visit www.keepmoat.com.
