The TTA Awards, recently held in London for the first time, have recognised the brightest and best individuals from the industry, the most innovative new products and the sector’s best and most interesting projects.
Many of the leading companies in the industry attended – manufacturers, contractors, distributors – attracted by the ‘London Calling!’ theme. Organised by The Tile Association, the event had a fresh new feel for 2014 and is now definitely the ‘must-attend’ event of the year for the tiling industry. Hosted by Emma Jesson from ITV, the day also raised over £3,000 for the Association’s nominated charity of the year – The Children Today Charitable Trust.
In all, 60 finalists in 16 categories were represented on the day, and the winners in each category were as follows:

Jonathon Minoli, managing director of Minoli, says:
“We at Minoli are truly delighted to be recognised by The Tile Association again this year, for the Excellence in Distribution Award. As a company we regard ourselves as one of the original distributors within the UK and one of the few that actually invest in the distribution network in the market place. 2014 marks the fourth consecutive year that the judges have awarded us an award which we regard as the most prestigious of the night.
“This award and the recognition of the work carried out by the team at Minoli will only spur us on to more and better things during the remainder of 2014 and looking towards 2015 and beyond”.
John Harris, managing director of Harper & Edwards, who took the Gold Award for Excellence in Tile Contracting, says:
“We are delighted that this has come in our 25th year, as recognition for the efforts and hard work of all our staff and tilers since we were founded. As a London company, the event was easy for us to attend – the choice of venue was excellent and I would like to thank the organisers for all their hard work.”
Patrick Jenner, regional retail sales manager at N&C Tiles & Bathrooms, who took the Gold Award for Excellence in Multiple Retailing, adds:
“These are the first TTA Awards I’ve been to, and it’s a very proud day. I run five of the six branches around London, and we are continually growing year-on-year, always driving forward. This has come at a great time for us.”
The increasingly high profile TTA Awards once again attracted some of the biggest names in the industry as event sponsors. These included: BAL, FILA Surface Care Products, James Hardie, Laticrete, Mapei, Rubi, and Schlüter Systems.
Peter Bell, managing director of sponsor BAL says:
“The new format of a lunchtime event in London makes a nice refreshing change, and I congratulate the TTA on trying different things. It all adds to the positive vibe in the industry at the moment. It is really taking off again, with a genuine recovery going on. Quarter 1 was very strong – everybody is talking the market up.”
For the TTA, the 2014 Awards mark the beginning of a new chapter in the Association’s growth. TTA Chairman, Ian Kershaw, says:
“Firstly, I’d like to congratulate all those who were finalists in our Awards this year. You are all winners and your achievement makes our industry proud. In particular, of course, very well done to those individuals and those companies who came away with the Gold rosettes in the various categories.
“I look forward to welcoming everybody again in a year’s time, when we will be looking back on what promises to be a very busy year for the TTA, with new branding, new website and a host of other initiatives which will enable us to represent our members’ interests even better. I was particularly happy this year that we were able to raise such a good sum for The Children Today Charitable Trust, showing once again what a warm hearted industry we are.”
