Housebuilding stepping in the right direction, but more investment needed to combat crisis

Mark Sismey-Durrant, Chief Executive Officer at Hampshire Trust Bank, said:

“The Prime Minister’s latest pledge to build 13,000 new affordable homes is most definitely a step in the right direction and a great example of the government ‘rolling up its sleeves’ in a bid to get Britain building again – housing supply is the right solution to the UK’s housing challenges. However, the UK’s housing shortages will not be solved by this initiative alone. While a number of small firms will benefit from this injection in cash, there are many across the UK that will not. This is where the specialist banks can lend a hand, by offering more personalised financing solutions that are tailored to the individual housebuilder’s needs. Britain still has some way to go in cracking the housing crisis which stems from decades of under-development, however through increased government funding and further available finance from the challenger banking sector, we are undoubtedly making progress.”
