Darren Evans delivers excellence for Taylor Wimpey Development

The gently rolling landscape of the English countryside provided a stunning backdrop to a new housing development which blended contemporary living with sensitivity towards its surroundings. Darren Evans Assessments delivered the crowning glory to this Cotswolds beauty with a sustainability seal of approval for developer Taylor Wimpey.

Located just three miles north of Cheltenham, Abode by Wimpey Homes enjoys a fantastic setting in the beautiful village of Bishop’s Cleeve in Gloucestershire, which dates back to the 8th century and still features historic buildings and thatched cottages. The new development is a collection of 233 three and four bedroom homes and three apartment blocks at Homelands Farm.

As well as being aesthetically pleasing the development had to comply with the Code for Sustainable Homes Level 4 (CfSH4) under Part L 2010 of building regulations and present Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs). Time constraints were tight, we often have to produce certificates on the same day as receiving evidence to ensure that Taylor Wimpey gain Council of Mortgage Lenders (CML) certification when needed.

Our Technical Director, Michael Brogden said:

“We met with the client after the initial SAP calculations were completed to find out a way to meet the CfSH targets in the most economical way. Originally there were no Fabric Energy Efficiency (FEE) credits so this needed to be amended in the SAP. We had to model various options to help difficult plots to pass compliance.”

Due to changes in the code credits in the design phase, we had to amend the amount of photovoltaic (PV) panels in order to gain CfSH level 4.

Angela Wood, Code for Sustainable Homes Assessor at Darren Evans added:

“There were also issues with the private space for the flats and how this could be factored in. We advised them where they would need to put fencing to earn these credits, which they did.”

Client Taylor Wimpey was clearly delighted with the outcome. Project Manager Leighton Jones said:

“I was impressed with the way Darren Evans delivered consistently even when under considerable pressure with our ever-changing programme. The air testers that attended site were a credit to their business and professional throughout. It’s refreshing to work with a subcontractor who understands our positions and whose intentions are to help.”
