Countryside, one of the UK’s leading home builders specialising in place making and regeneration, and its partners Notting Hill Genesis have broken ground at Fresh Wharf, their two phase 911-home regeneration scheme in Barking, East London. The ceremony was attended by the Leader of Barking & Dagenham Council, Cllr Darren Rodwell, as well as Cllr Ashraf and key representatives from Countryside and Notting Hill Genesis.
Fresh Wharf, set across 10 acres of brownfield industrial land, is located by the River Roding, near Barking Town Centre. The development of 911 new homes, along with new shops, cafes and parks will transform the area into a new riverside destination.
Demolition commenced in February, and the initial completions in the first phase of the development, which will deliver 532 homes, are expected in autumn 2020. The entire development is due to complete by 2026.
Fresh Wharf will comprise one, two and three-bedroom apartments and three-bedroom houses, and these homes are designed to maximise the benefit of the riverside frontage and city views. The scheme also includes a new, large, open park at the heart of the development with two further landscape-led public realm areas. The existing boat moorings will be re-instated with additional facilities added to the development. In the Northern Square there will be a selection of new local shops, cafes and restaurants which will add to the vibrancy of this exciting new place to live.
Situated along the banks of the River Roding, Fresh Wharf is ideally located, less than a 15-minute walk or five-minute cycle to Barking Station. The site is also adjacent to the North Circular and A13 for excellent transport links to London City Airport and Canary Wharf.
