As phases 1-3 of Chelsea Barracks near completion, news comes that planning has been submitted for the final chapter of London’s most anticipated development. Set to comprise of 126 extra-care and affordable housing units, a public Sports Centre, four retail units and a state-of-the-art NHS medical centre, Phase 6B will be a hub for the local community. Located on Ebury Bridge Road, and forming part of the 12.8-acre masterplan, this final phase will be inter-linked with the rest of the development via a network of pedestrian walkways to create a thriving and vibrant space for the community to enjoy.
The final piece of the Chelsea Barracks masterplan, the affordable housing offering at Chelsea Barracks, will total 29 intermediate rent, 42 social rent and 55 senior living homes, set within four individual brick buildings. Honouring the legacy of the barracks – which for 150 years was home to battalions from the royal guards – Phase 6B has been designed in keeping with the rest of the development to reflect the traditional Belgravia streetscape, by architects Piercy & Company and Squire & Partners.
Residents and the local community will also benefit from a large mix of leisure, health and wellness facilities for all to enjoy. The offering will include a publically accessible Sports Centre, a new 5,000 square metre complex that will include a spacious gym – fitted with the latest first-class equipment, fitness studios, four badminton courts, a 25- metre swimming pool, a teaching pool, and a number of health and wellness spaces. A self-contained NHS clinic will also be delivered as part of Chelsea Barracks’ contribution to the community.
The planning application for Phase 6B comprises a number of additional public benefits, which goes above and beyond that dictated in the original outline consent. Qatari Diar plans to provide a 50% increase of public outdoor space, three additional affordable homes, an enlarged gym facility and another gym studio.
