In a bid to encourage Cambridge residents to consider more sustainable methods of transport, leading developer Barratt and David Wilson Homes has appointed Smarter Travel to provide an exclusive travel plan to help new homebuyers put their best foot forward at its new Darwin Green community.
The plan is set to bring a number of benefits to the area and aims to reduce congestion and pollution in the area by increasing awareness of alternative travel options.
The development off of Huntingdon Road is offering residents travel incentives such as personalised travel plans, travel vouchers, cycle training and free bike hire to support these alternative methods of transport.
So far, over 50 residents have taken up a voucher offering from Smarter Travel, which includes either a public transport ticket or an active travel voucher to be used towards equipment such as rucksacks and trainers.
Electric vehicle charging points are also being installed throughout Darwin Green to accommodate the growing popularity of electric and hybrid cars.
Residents are also encouraged to use nearby public transport options including buses and trains where possible and are being given incentives to do so through incentives such as free unlimited travel passes throughout Cambridge for seven days.
As well as many other amenities, Darwin Green will feature a multitude of cycle paths once complete which residents will be able to enjoy.
The specifically tailored travel plan outlines to residents how they can reduce their carbon footprint and improve their neighbourhood.
Will Phair, sales director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes Cambridgeshire, said:
“The sustainable commuting possibilities at Darwin Green are ideal for those looking to contribute to a greener future and we’re encouraging residents to consider these options wherever possible.
“Cambridge already holds great access for its residents via walking and cycle routes and we’re hoping our residents will see the multiple benefits of these environmentally-friendly ways of travelling locally.
“As Darwin Green continues to progress, we hope our new community will play a big part in using alternative methods of transport and will help us towards our collective goal of making Cambridge a more sustainable city.”
Darwin Green will feature a wide range of fantastic amenities including its very own central park which will feature 15 acres of open space, and high quality sport pitches.
The development has helped to invest over £36.5m into Cambridge, such as providing funding towards, education, highways, infrastructure and public transport, as well as towards community and sports facilities.
