Building Safety Bill – We want your thoughts

Housebuilder & Developer is undertaking some research into the Building Safety Bill, exploring housebuilders’ and developers’ opinions on the scheme. From the results, we will be writing a detailed white paper, which will be available to read on our website and in a forthcoming issue.

After the horrors of the Grenfell Tower fire, many promises were made across the industry, and the Government began a series of reviews into the events that unfolded, and the state of building safety as a whole.

In its response to the disaster, the Government has introduced the Building Safety Bill – set to bring about the biggest changes in building safety in the last 40 years, introducing a new regulator, a clearer chain of responsibility, tighter regulations, and much more.

Despite the Government’s laudable intentions, however, some have argued that there has been a lack of information and engagement from the Government about the Bill – both between Whitehall and the housebuilding industry, as well as buyers and residents.

This study aims to ascertain the current level of awareness of the Bill among housebuilders, developers and specifiers, how well those that are aware understand the changes, how many agree with these changes, and what the barriers to their adoption might be.
