Local people struggling to find a home in the prosperous and growing town of Buntingford are being given the chance to fulfil their dreams with the new properties soon to be offered for affordable rent and shared ownership sale by Hightown Housing Association.
Hightown is building 64 affordable homes – 48 for rent and 16 for shared ownership – on the popular Knights Walk development in Hare Street Road in the attractive East Hertfordshire market town.
These affordable homes will only be let or sold to local people, giving them a rare opportunity to move into an attractive new property in a town where the average purchase price in the last 12 months was £401,882.
The charitable housing association will be offering a mixture of 1-bedroom maisonettes as well as 2, 3 and 4-bedroom houses on the development, which will also feature a children’s play area and a landscaped green with a pond.
Four 1 and 2-bedroom homes in Pipkin Drive will soon be available for affordable rent to people on the Council’s waiting list. The first shared ownership properties – five 2 and 3-bedroom homes also in Pipkin Drive – will be offered for sale in the early summer.
Hightown, which aims to help people unable to afford to buy or rent homes at market values, will release the rest of the homes in separate phases between the summer of 2016 and the end of 2017.
George Edkins, Development Director at Hightown, said:
“This is an attractive development in a pretty town with good road connections, thanks to the A10. We know it’s hard for many local people to afford to buy or rent in this area and we’re delighted to give them the opportunity to have a home to call their own.”
