The brand behind the leading composite door in the new build sector, DoorCo, has set the bar even higher, announcing multiple enhancements to their ORiGINAL composite door in an INNOVATiON Week takeover, that will be coming to market from January. DoorCo’s Technical and Sales Manager, Ian Glenister, explains more.
As the new build market continues to pave the way in futureproofed housing, the sector relies heavily on suppliers who can match the required level of innovation needed to create homes that are both secure and thermally efficient.
Wherever smart people work, doors are unlocked (Steve Wozniak)
DoorCo are the innovators behind a huge volume of the UK’s new build doors thanks to our network of partnerships with the nation’s best fabricators and installers. Their ORiGINAL foam-filled composite door has been a revolutionary product in the market since its conception, thanks to its unrivalled security, thermal performance and style options.
2023 has been a year of consolidation at DoorCo, focused on building strength within the team and focusing closely on product development. ORiGINAL has been very much at the centre of this with enhancements announced during our recent INNOVATiON week that included a new, taller and wider door that creates new designs, accompanied with brand new glass.
Eaton and the NOiR Collection
The first and most exciting new evolution of ORiGINAL is the Eaton door slab. A one-of-a-kind entry to the market, Eaton will be available in our tallest, widest size ever (950mm x 2100mm) with a completely fresh new woodgrain finish. The engineering inside Eaton allows it to create seven different designs from this one door slab, which we have put together in a brand-new collection called NOiR. Based on the styles of the 1920’s – think art deco, an era we felt really encapsulates everything that our new slab Eaton is: a perfect hybrid between traditional and modern, and effortlessly sophisticated. No collection is complete without a new range of glass so, we worked with our partners RegaLead to create some stunning new exclusive glass designs: Casino, Skyscraper, Lavish, Empire, Metropolis, Jazz, Blossom, Palazzo. As well as perfectly showcasing the new Eaton, Knightsbridge and Tatton door designs in the NOiR range, the new glass pieces look equally stunning in some of our existing Designer doors, like Monza II Augusta and the Links Augusta Long.
Facelift for ¾ Lite and side panels
The popular ¾ lite door, which is currently used to create leading design, Gleneagles, has been redesigned with a refreshed grain and simplified mouldings to now offer more versatility than ever, including new designs Oulton, Kings and Grove.
Another new product further enhancing the style capabilities in the ORiGINAL door range is the new flush side panel, which offers better flexibility, particularly for the popular Medinah design. The new flush panel allows the cassette to be placed at any height in line with the door, therefore creating a cleaner and more uniform look for the entranceway and looks great with the new Eaton and ¾ Lite finishes.
Popular shades as standard to enhance supply
An important part of any door offering is colour, so in a bid to improve supply we have switched the two most popular greys – Slate and Agate – over to our standard colour range for the ORiGINAL door and FLiP glazing system collections, meaning these leading choices can be delivered even faster.
Slate and Agate will be available as standard in popular designs for both FLiP and ORiGINAL.
Enhanced solid core alternative
With so much innovation going on for ORiGINAL, we couldn’t forget our leading solid core door option, GRiPCORE. The first of its kind in the industry, GRiPCORE has evolved into a hybrid timber-foam core that is stronger, more secure and more thermally efficient than solid timber core counterparts. The core construction comprises layers of both PIR foam and HDF plywood, compressed between two sheets of aluminium. The combination of foam and wood provides enhanced thermal capabilities and impressive strength, whilst the aluminium acts as a vital layer for protecting against moisture infiltration. It’s then finished with an additional sheet of exterior grade plywood and of course, our signature GRP skins complete the design for flawless correlation with the core. When you bring all the elements together, GRiPCORE 2.0 presents a one-of-a-kind, premium slab that delivers a low centre-pane U-Value of just 0.8.
Completing the collection
Yet another new door is being added to our offering, this time a new Stable Door. There will be 6 classic countryside designs in the farmhouse style, available in both our ORiGINAL and GRiPCORE compositions. The timber layers of the GRiPCORE engineering allows for this slab to be ready to use when it comes to stable doors, with our ORiGINAL foam-filled slab having been specifically re-engineered to feature a solid PVC rail across the centre which is machined through to create the split design whilst ensuring structural integrity and protection from moisture ingress.
Rounding off with fire
Last but certainly not least in the door updates is FiRECORE, DoorCo’s fire door solution that is due to launch in Spring 2024. Developed with Winkhaus and tested in collaboration with key testing bodies, this has been a fantastic example of brilliant partnerships working together to create a truly reliable and fit for purpose product.
Every single announcement shared across INNOVATiON Week was the result of the hard work our team has put into ensuring we remain at the forefront of the new build and developer innovation space. Staying still and stagnant simply isn’t an option for DoorCo, our customers and the wider market. It’s a tough market out there and we need to be delivering the very best offering to help everyone to keep moving forward with innovation and differentiation.
2024 will see the composite door offering become even more dynamic. Be part of the change – speak to your supplier today about ORiGINAL and GRiPCORE, or get in touch with us directly to understand more about our products and our network of new build expert fabricators and installers.
