Cameron Homes Submits Plans for £16m Development in Burbage, Leicestershire

Cameron Homes has submitted detailed plans to Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council for a 2.5Ha (6.2-acre) site in the Leicestershire village of Burbage, less than a mile from J1 of the M69 motorway. 40 family homes are proposed, together with public open space.

The Staffordshire-headquartered five-star HBF housebuilder appointed Pegasus Architects to design the £16m development plans. A mix of two- to five-bedroom semi-detached and detached houses with brick and rendered elevations are proposed, 20% of which would be allocated for affordable housing. Two plots would be designated as ‘First Homes’, to enable local first time buyers to purchase a home with a 30% – in perpetuity – discount.

Accessed from Workhouse Lane, the site is two miles from Hinckley town centre and train station. Central Co-op has been the long term landowner for this site and successfully secured the outline planning approval for residential development, before choosing Cameron Homes to take the development forward to detailed design and delivery.

John Hickman, Group Land Director for Tara Group and Cameron Homes, said:

“We are pleased to have submitted a Reserved Matters Application for this site in Burbage, where our brand is already well established. Our plans for a quintessential £16m Cameron development of beautifully designed and detailed family houses will cater for every sector of the market, from first time buyers to growing families and downsizers.

“Being less than a mile from the Midlands motorway network, future residents will benefit from quick travel to Coventry, Leicester, Tamworth and Birmingham via the M1, M6, M69 and A5. We will continue to work with Council officers, councillors and stakeholders as this planning application is considered. We are hopeful of being able to start construction later this year, creating local skilled jobs.”

The traditionally styled exteriors will feature the considered use of Tudor boarding to reference the local context. The latest green energy features will be incorporated into this scheme, with a very high EPC rating targeted. Specification highlights will include Smart Hive thermostats, electric vehicle car chargers, and solar PV panels.

As part of the development programme, Cameron Homes will deliver ecological enhancements and increase the biodiversity of the site, through the creation of an attenuation pond resulting in new habitats. New trees, hedgerows, shrubs and wildflowers will be native species.

Burbage benefits from large village amenities including local shops, restaurants, cafes, pubs, two schools, library and a village hall.

Established in 1994, Cameron Homes is currently delivering over 200 homes across 11 live developments and has a pipeline of future sites expected to deliver circa 1,000 new homes.
