From 1st December 2023, all cavity trays fitted in high-rise residential and other ‘relevant buildings’ with masonry external leaf and steel-framed backed walls, as outlined in Regulation 7(2) and the statutory guidance given in Approved Document B for England, will need to be classified A1 or A2-s1, d0.
Siderise CT Cavity Tray offers a straightforward solution. Combining a flexible aluminium tray with integral non-combustible stonewool insulation, it has an A2-s1, d0 reaction to fire classification. It also carries BBA certification for heat ageing and watertightness and can comply with the technical requirements of major warranty providers such as NHBC, Premier Guarantee and LABC.
As a factory-engineered product it is quicker and easier to install than traditional alternatives fabricated onsite with rigid materials that need specialist equipment, isolated onsite workshop zones and large site storage facilities. It simply requires a cutting knife and sealing tape for joining at details such as corners or windows— eliminating the need for sealants or costly made-to-order prefabricated corner sections.
Its faster speed of install can have a considerable impact on project schedule efficiency, especially on larger projects with multiple floors and where different trades need to share mast usage. In fact, on the recently completed Anchorage project in Salford, it enabled the project team to free up mast usage, with an estimated ratio of 70/30 in the bricklayers’ favour, speeding up the build programme.
